父母親滿心歡喜迎接寶貝，在成長過程卻發現寶貝可能是遲緩兒，對父母親來說，都是一個打擊。
遲緩兒可以預防嗎？中醫大新竹附醫兒科醫師陳威宇表示，媽媽們在孕期補充B12以及葉酸，可以幫助胎兒神經發育，但大多數情況下寶寶要生出來，根據寶寶生長來做評估才能夠得知。一般來說，4到5個月會翻身，7坐8爬，9個月左右就開始會牙牙學語了。
每個寶寶生長不同，如果父母親發覺寶寶發展不如寶寶手冊上附的發展連續圖，建議可以請兒科醫師來評估，早期發現，早期治療。
